In this episode of the Blaxit Global podcast, I reunite with Natalie Wester who was featured in the Condé Nast article I wrote, How to Retire in Portugal: A Complete Guide, and our popular Moving Abroad Over 50 panel on our YouTube channel.
Natalie Wester is a former second-grade teacher and National State Teacher of the Year who retired from teaching as a second career at 59. A radical reinventor, permission-giver, and storyteller, she encourages midlife women to give themselves permission to change the life they’re living so they can live a life they love.
By 60 she became a solo around-the-world traveler and recovering social media avoider. At 61, she launched The Hot Goddess blog for midlife women and started a “blackboard to bourbon” journey by developing a Midlife Reimagined Apprenticeship and becoming a whiskey distillery intern. At 62, she became an expat and now calls Lourinhã, Portugal home.

hello , it’s great to read about other women of color immigrating to different parts of the world. I am a recently retired IT black Colombian woman who’s lived in Miami for 50 years- I am currently exploring my move to Sesimbra, Portugal where I should be able to retire comfortably w/my pension, SS & Roth IRA savings. My 8 other siblings think I am crazy BUT I know I am NOT. I hope to connect/join the vast diaspora of black women moving to Portugal!!!!
Congratulations on your exploration of Sesimbra. I haven’t traveled to Sesimbra yet but Portugal does not disappoint. No, you are not crazy…follow the calling on your heart. In fact, we are co-hosting the Move to Portugal Virtual Summit which is your one-stop shop for Moving to Portugal. Hopefully you can attend and get your questions answered. https://move-to-portugal-summit.heysummit.com/
